If you are looking for true adventure, then taking on some of Scotland's classic Sea stacks and Sea-cliffs is a must.
Remote and wild places, tucked away in the corners of Scotland. Battered by rough seas, strong winds and time, these amazing locations and climbs, truly are memorable experiences. Some involve ferries, taxis, swimming, walks and/or Tyrolean's to reach them.
The Old Man of Stoer is located just north of Stoer Light House. A short walk leads you to a steep and exposed downclimb to the shore. From here it is either a swim for one person or you all, to access the Sea stack. At 60m it is no giant but the climbing on the Torridonian Sandstone is fantastic. Graded at VS 5a, the technical climbing is never too hard but the position and conditions can make it seem a great deal harder.
The Old Man of Hoy and it's original route is a classic and appears in the Ken Wilson Hard Rock book. The climb itself is given E1 5b and stands at 140m in length. A truly memorable climb and the free hanging abseil on descent is up there too.
Based just off the coast of the magnificent Sandwood bay, Am Buachaille is the lesser known classic but has just the same amount of adventure. You are going to have to get wet on this one, with a short swim to the base required. Graded at VS 4c and 65 m in height, it isnt the biggest but packs a punch.
Our Sea Stack and sea cliff guiding is organised on a completely bespoke nature - The dates you want and the challenges you need. Prices are available on request.
You will need experience of climbing and should be able to second rock climbs of up to VS/HVS. Due to the location and Scottish weather we recommend that each sea stack has at least a 2 day booking, which allows time to gain a bit more experience or to take advantage of the tide times.
