Guided Ice Climbing and Mixed Climbing on Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis Guided Winter Climbing

Winter Climbing on Ben Nevis is world renowned for its 'special' qualities. Storm cycle after storm cycle ploughs into the the mountains of the west coast of Scotland, making both the climbing and the experience challenging.

The Ice Climbing on Ben Nevis had its place in modern climbing history. It was often used as a training ground for the Alps and higher ranges for British based climbers. Looking to test themselves whilst climbing but also to prepare for the more challenging conditions they may encounter. "If you can look after yourself in Scotland, you can look after yourself on any mountain, anywhere in the world."

Many of todays classic ice climbs were first climbed with a single axe and by the leader cutting steps. Initially climbers were drawn to the ice lines and gully's but as time has gone on Ben Nevis is also now an amazing location for mixed climbing.

Modern Ice tools and protection make Ice and mixed climbing more amenable and Ben Nevis classics routes are well within the grasp of many a Winter Climber.
